Give Back the Fat
Some people are irate over the size of the national debt and the budget deficit we’ve been carrying since 2002. Politicians are trying to cut things like Social Security and education while expanding military spending and tax cuts for big business and the wealthy. Maybe we’re going about this backwards. Why don’t we have Congressional representatives from each state agree to cuts in the federal money their state receives so that no state gets back more than it pays in? If it’s OK to “bring home the bacon” in good times it should be just as acceptable to “give back the fat” when times are tough.
Maybe you could contact your representatives and suggest a few cuts that you think should be made. The site, State Smart — Federal Funds in 50 States by Becky Sweger and others will give you a good place to start.
